Fried Ginkgos

In the past, there used to be many itinerant peddlers selling fried ginkgos in alleys in autumn. They didn’t take many loads, only an earthen stove, an iron wok and a slice on one load, and some ginkgos put in the cask on the other load. It was said that fried ginkgos were introduced from Shanghai. Therefore, many peddlers liked to sing with Shanghai accent while frying: “delicious ginkgo, glutinous ginkgo; for six ginkgoes, bring one coin.” This scene could attract customers easily, especially children. Well-fried ginkgo is soft and savory, which has a special feeling in late cool autumn.
